Logistics Summer Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Logistics Intern is responsible for enhancing and increasing the customer/shipper base of ATS Logistics Services through customer service, marketing, and sales. He or she will contact existing, inactive, or potential shippers to secure shipments for current and future carrier requirements; evaluate and maintain a shipper base in the data system on an ongoing basis; and maintain updated information on all available shipments. 

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who is currently pursuing a college degree in a related field and a good understanding of marketing, sales, and customer service principles. In addition, he or she must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and exceptional customer service, sales, and negotiation skills. Strong computer skills are required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiate rates with shippers, entering and recording all terms and conditions of shipment agreements
  • Attracts and retains qualified shippers
  • Qualifies new customers/shipments, matching ATS Logistics requirements with shipper’s needs and profile
  • Responds to customers’ requests for service and resolves customer issues
  • Communicates with the operations team
  • Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned
  • Contacts existing, inactive, or potential carriers
  • Dispatches qualified carrier to available freight, providing all pertinent information necessary for a high level of service, responding to questions, investigating and resolving problems as needed, and updating carrier trips in the data system
  • Acts as a liaison between carriers and shippers
