Clinical Therapist Intern

 

DEFINITION: This is an unpaid, student learning opportunity for an internship in a Master's counseling or social work program. Interns practice under the supervision of a licensed clinician while enrolled in an approved internship class through a partnering school. Interns must apply, interview, and if approved, be recommended by the Clinical Director to the Executive Director. Intern will be assigned to one or more locations by their supervisor for a finite period of time/hours, with increasing clinical responsibility as the internship progresses. Internship supervisor evaluates performance and provides feedback to the school. Number of internship positions will vary based on agency need and availability of supervisors. 

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Provide any and all of the services provided by an entry-level Masters' level therapist under the supervision of a licensed clinician. 
  • Route all documentation that is billable through their supervisor for review and approval. 
  • Conduct initial intake interviews of clients according to established procedure, assessing the client's problems and needs, developing an initial diagnosis.
  • Develop treatment plans using information gathered in the intake assessment, initial goals for treatment. 
  • Perform mental health evaluations or other therapeutic services at assigned locations.
  • Participate in training activities as required by the Authority to increase and enhance professional and therapeutic skills.
  • Complete reports required for client records as well as all forms and paperwork required by the Agency, including consumer releases, admission/discharge documentation, and other forms as needed.
  • Conduct individual therapist as requested by supervisor.   Provide family support and education and mental health care coordination as appropriate.
  • Conduct groups as assigned in any location that provides intensive day treatment. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Enrollment in an approved counseling program and internship course.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of counseling.
  • Knowledge of assessing the mental status of individuals in need of mental health services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with consumers, families, hospital staff and community mental health center staff.
  • Ability to work in a proactive, assertive and energetic manner in fulfilling the duties of this position.
  • Ability to work effectively as a treatment team member.
  • Willing to work in non-traditional and in-home settings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends if necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrollment in an approved Masters' level internship course with a school that is approved by the Executive Director for partnership.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to Carastar's insurance carrier.
  • Must maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.
  • Must maintain a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR and CPI certificates.
