High School Intern

Job Summary:

Provides services essential to Tribal Library operations. Assists with the Library Summer Program in activity sessions and preparing materials. Assists with and promotes the teen summer program.  

Essential Functions:

  • Helps maintains the library collection by ensuring that collection items are shelved correctly and items are aligned & standing straight. 
  • Be available to assist patrons as needed with information and resource referral.
  • Provides circulation services that include check-in and out of collection items.
  • Participates in training to learn the Follett software program to include, but not limited to; Circulation Services and Patron Maintenance
  • Assists Library staff with the Summer Program material preparation and activity facilitation with the Library K-5 groups.
  • Reads a selected titles and writes & displays a review to post in the library.
  • Assists Library staff with the Summer Teen Program. Assists teens with book selection and library activity projects.
  • Assists with prepping donated items for cataloging as identified by Librarian.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Preference in hiring will be given to Grand Ronde Tribal Youth in their junior or senior year of High School, who are considering post-secondary education in the academic fields of math, science, or technology.
  • Requires a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.  A 2.5 grade point average is preferred.

Driving Requirements:

  • This position may require driving.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • Ability to work well with the public, children, youth and staff.
  • Dependable and willingness to participate in training.
  • Entry level computer skills required.
  • Must have good communication skills and be customer service oriented.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan. 
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
