Enrichment Coordinator Cook/Aide Coordinator - Part Time

Job Summary:

Assists and leads activities for the Tribal K-12 summer program services. Provides assistance in any area of the Youth Enrichment Program as assigned.

Cook Essential Functions:

  • Maintains standards of sanitation, health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Assists with necessary paperwork on a daily basis and the month-end report.
  • Prepares and serves daily snacks, breakfast, lunches or other meals per day, on the basis of a menu plan for each four-week period.
  • Assists with food procurement through outside food vendors.
  • Cleans kitchen equipment and work areas. Loads and unloads dishwasher and returns equipment to its proper place during and after each meal preparation.
  • Organizes and maintains kitchen, pantry and general commons area.
  • Conducts periodic deep cleaning in the kitchen during closure days or other times assigned.
  • Provides assistance to teachers for food and cooking experiences in the classroom.
  • Provides clean dishes and utensils at each classroom site at meal times.
  • Washes dishes and utensils according to standards of sanitation.
  • Properly handles, stores, and labels leftover food items.
  • Performs simple laundry tasks.
  • Attends continuing education as required.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Coordinator Aid Essential Functions:

  • Assists or leads with scheduling and supervising on site activities or local field trips.
  • Works with other staff to develop program activities as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining program inventory and acquires materials as necessary.
  • Drives 12 passenger vans with students and staff as needed.
  • Reports concerns and incidents to supervisory staff.
  • Provides frequent feedback and guidance using positive communication skills with all students.
  • Assists in keeping youth education facilities and tribal vehicles clean.
  • Follows program's schedule and plans while providing group and individual assistance to students and staff.
  • Assists in preparation and clean-up of snack and supplies from activities.
  • Supervises and monitors children at all times.
  • Provides a safe environment for participants.
  • Handles discipline problems promptly and according to policy.
  • Establishes a process to report cases of suspected child abuse in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with tribal and community programs to conduct summer activities.
  • Informs supervisor of program needs, problem areas, and specialized student needs.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • Two-year college degree in Education preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience required.
  • Working with youth in an enrichment setting preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year related experience cooking in a regulated kitchen.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe's vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications:

  • Completed and approved State of Oregon Childcare registry.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Must have good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Microsoft Word.
  • Must have the ability to relate well with children at various age levels.
  • Must have the ability to communicate well with parents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of Native American cultures. 
  • Prefer familiarity with Grand Ronde Tribal culture.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
  • Must have knowledge of basic principles of good nutrition.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to plan for economy in shopping and in the planning, preparing, and serving of balanced meals and snacks. 
  • Must have good personal cleanliness habits.
  • Must understand the requirements for hygienic kitchen maintenance and housekeeping, and should have demonstrated ability to supervise others in this area.
  • Requires a food handler's card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required.
