Dessert Holdings is looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to join our team based in Humble, TX.  This role is responsible for the oversight and leadership of health and safety for the Humble, Texas and Kennesaw, Georgia locations. The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager – Humble, and will be required to promote safety attitudes, safe work practices and environments as well as provide oversite of the EHS program & regulatory requirements with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, and environmental impact. The individual will design, implement, and manage programs, policies, and procedures to meet company and regulatory standards. Additionally, the EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements while keeping accurate documentation of all activities related to health and safety initiatives.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements health and safety policies, programs, and procedures at the workplace that align with company standards and local and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state/provincial regulations by understanding existing and changing laws and rules, interpreting standards, enforcing adherence, and advising management on needed actions
  • Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all Dessert Holdings employees and contractors
  • Collaborates with management team and key stakeholders to identify health & safety related needs for the site and ensures health and safety concerns are addressed and resolved in a timely manner
  • Communicates with local authorities, agencies, and third-party agencies on regulatory compliance matters and complaint management.
  • Maintains and monitors a system of incident investigations, providing guidance regarding remedial action for accident prevention measures and guidance to reduce incidents of workers compensation claims.  Identifies areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for reporting obligations as required by local, provincial, state, federal and corporate requirements and analyzing health and safety data to strengthen the Internal Responsibility System in each facility.
  • Reviews and analyzes health and safety data and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to share with management team.
  • Collaborates by sharing best practices with other DH facilities and supports the execution of initiatives.
  • Partners with Human Resources in workers compensation management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in any safety-related field
  • At least 5+ years of experience managing Health & Safety in a manufacturing setting
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of local and federal regulations, and occupational health and safety standards (ANSI, CSA etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing health and safety strategies, policies, and programs
  • Effective at interacting with regulatory agencies, facility leadership, plant personnel and legal counsel with knowledge of legal processes
  • A professional designation (e.g., CSP, CRSP) and prior EHS auditing experience is preferred
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) to be an effective influencer at all levels and display effective leadership skills
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft office
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Must be a HIGHLY MOTIVATED, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail effective managing self with little supervision – self driven.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in a production environment for extended periods of time, including stooping, standing, bending.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel or bend.
  • Employee must lift up to 50 pounds and is required to ask for assistance if limit is exceeded.
  • Must be able to work in a food allergens environment.
  • Working environment provides exposure to environmental changes (heat, cold, dampness, and chemicals).
