Business Systems Analyst

Definition and Examples of Work

  • Develop, distribute, and coordinate in-depth end-user reviews for modified and new systems or applications.
  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Identify and establish scope and parameters of systems analysis to define outcome criteria and measurements taking actions.
  • Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Review and analyze existing systems and develop effective and efficient strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Create systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to system programmers.
  • Serve as the primary contact between the organization and the software development team.
  • Manages subcontractor relationships.
  • Work with Project Management to develop project timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth testing.
  • Provide orientation and training to end users.

Latitude and Impact of Position

This position works daily to obtain information, provide input, and problem solve independently and as part of a team, while researching and using extensive technical and industry knowledge. Most work projects are assigned, then the employee arranges his/her work tasks for completion within established timeframes. Decision making may be done independently when related to own work tasks and when decisions do not impact other departments. All purchase requests require supervisory approval. Successful completion of job tasks impacts internal systems, processes and procedures, operating costs, and customer satisfaction.

  • Primarily works in a general office environment using computers, electronic devices, and related office equipment.

  • Communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization and with external contacts.
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal skills to integrate and support diverse requirements and points of view.
  • A demonstrated customer focus, teamwork skills, and a willingness to share technical and business knowledge with team members.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to resolve conflict, efficiently problem solve, make appropriate decisions, and communicate orally and in written form effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Skilled knowledge of SOL and relational database management systems.
  • Skilled with MS Project.
  • Skilled with Agile software development methodology.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Preferred candidate will have experience with enterprise reporting products such as ReportsNow, Jasper Reports, Tableau, etc.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Analysis, Computer Information Systems, Business Intelligence, or another Information Technology or related field.
  • 5 - 7 years' experience analyzing, implementing and supporting complex business processes.

Certification, License, Registration

  • Valid driver license
