Senior Payroll Specialist

The Senior Payroll Specialist role is a key player in the coordination and successful processing of the multistate bi-weekly payroll for NOWCC staff and enrollees. Ensure all payroll reports and related records are maintained in accordance to federal, state and local laws. Provide high caliber/excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Research and resolve staff and enrollee related payroll issues and questions according to company service level agreements.  Please note: this position will be 100% remote until we resume normal business operations. Preference will be given to applicants in the Washington DC area (Maryland, DC, Virginia).

Auditing of time and attendance reports for completeness and accuracy in the processing of a bi-weekly payroll. Review and reconcile payroll data and resolve discrepancies.  Coordination with field staff for approval of timecards. Generating ADP audit reports to verify the accuracy of payroll before submission to ADP. 

  • Verify and confirm new hires, terminations and employee changes in payroll system
  • Reconciliation of Time and Attendance files to Payroll Reports
  • Maintain accurate and easily accessible enrollee personnel files and payroll management reports
  • Complete requests for information such as unemployment claims and wage verifications
  • Resolve payroll inquiries from enrollees – often contacting ADP for resolution
  • Perform other duties as assigned and the position description is subject to change at any time
  • Gather and analyze statistical data; create and generate standard and ad-hoc reports in ADP
To fulfill the responsibilities for this job, an individual must be able to competently perform and meet the expectations of each essential duty.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.  Payroll and Accounting related experience required. Must know payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures. Also skill in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities and preparing detailed reports.
Extensive knowledge and experience working with ADP payroll systems is required.  ADP Workforce is preferred. FPC Certification highly preferred.
Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state wage laws and regulations. Experience working with multistate and local tax payroll.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Intermediate-level Excel skills are required.
Ability to anticipate and prioritize multiple tasks and diverse assignments, from different sources, and to switch direction based on departmental needs.
Work well under pressure and interact effectively with people at all levels.
Work with an acute attention to detail, including careful consideration for all matters impacting compliance, i.e., FSLA, Garnishment, State Reciprocity, Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) and State Unemployment Insurance requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, including enrollees, monitors and NOWCC staff.
Ability to maintain confidential information and high degree of professionalism.
Demonstrated ability to work thoroughly and accurately with figures, and to follow internal policies and the requirements of clients and customers.
Minimum High School Diploma
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance is preferred
FPC or CPP designation highly preferred.
A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible relevant experience in computerized Payroll in a non-profit multistate environment, with emphasis in Payroll and Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
