Description

The Junior Fiber Optic Sales Application Engineer is a technical role responsible for assisting in the growth of military and aerospace fiber optic sales.  The Junior Sales Application Engineer will act as a technical resource for the external and internal sales teams and will work with them to identify fiber optic solutions for customer requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to existing and prospective customers
  • Assist Market Managers (external sales) in Bill of Material (BOM) creation, component costing and quoting
  • Confer with customers and engineers to assess product needs and to determine system requirements
  • Collaborate with sales reps to understand customer requirements and provide sales support
  • Plan and modify products to meet customer needs
  • Provide technical support and expertise to customers, respond to customer feedback
  • Help customers solve problems after sale
  • Recommend improved materials or machinery to customers, showing how changes will lower costs or increase production
  • Help in researching and developing new products
  • Occasional travel with external sales to key customers; assist with on-site applications engineering
  • Support 4-5 trade shows per year with help from sales team
  • Assist in technical editing of sales and marketing materials, which include articles, presentations, white papers, and collaterals

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical support:  Ability to understand customer’s requirements, questions and feedback and relay it to product manager or engineering teams
  • Ability to complete customer service tasks such as quotes, PO review and delivery schedules
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, and conceptual skill sets  
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical applications and develop customer specific interconnect solutions  
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Strong team building skills; able to coordinate between multiple functions (sales, engineering, marketing)
  • Strong organization skills – able to keep track of customer requests for quotations and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Entrepreneurial skills – Must be self-sufficient and able to contribute and develop innovative ideas in a smaller company environment
  • Frequent travel

Required Education and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in engineering desired but not required, sales and/or marketing
  • Technical / Engineering BA/BS degree strongly preferred (Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with RF/Optics experience and/or advanced degree)
  • Experience selling to large, defense industry customers a plus
  • Experience with connector sales and/or group systems (army, marine) market sales a plus
  • U.S. person as defined in ITAR, 22CFR 120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status)

Ideal Related Experience:

  • Industrial apps engineers (EE background) or product managers (or specialists)
  • HVAC product managers (especially with technologies dealing with system efficiencies)
  • Sales engineering background 
  • Junior Product Managers interested in taking on more sales oriented role.
